The Open Championship - golf's oldest tournament

  • Client: The R&A
  • Sector: Sports
  • Location: United Kingdom
  • Duration: 2010 - Present

The Open Championship is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. For four days every year, golfers brave everything the British weather can throw at them to compete for the coveted Claret Jug and the title of Champion Golfer of the Year.

Future Workshops has been engaged by The R&A every year since 2010 to build the official apps for The Open Championship. In that time we've become a trusted partner, whilst growing engaged users from 80,000 to over 1 million.

The Apps are built both for fans attending The Open Championship, and those watching from afar. Features include:
* Realtime leaderboard and scoring with filtering and personalisation for your favourite players
* Course and facilities guide for spectators
* Tee times with local timings
* An interactive floating video player for live video and content on demand
* Award winning The Open Championships radio

Marrying The Open’s rich traditions with forward-thinking technology isn’t always an easy task, and I’m glad we found a partner to go on that journey with us. Future Workshops get involved from the ground up to make sure what is built is right for our strategic goals and for golf fans. They routinely challenge us, bring creative solutions, and we rely on them to translate our business strategy into a high-performing mobile product.
